Helping Communities Heal

Though we long to shield the children in our lives from pain and tragedy, we live in a broken world where this is not always possible. As parents and ministry leaders, however, we can support children’s healing as we continue to point them to Jesus. No matter what difficult event or situation may occur, people need to know about God’s enduring love. In response, David C Cook has developed crisis response lessons for children experiencing trauma due to natural disasters.

It is designed to help parents and/or volunteers who serve young victims work through the trauma they have experienced.

This booklet contains 6 lessons, including:

  • My God Is Stronger than Any Natural Disaster
  • God Listens to My Fears about Disasters
  • Someone I Know Died
  • God Can Heal My Emotions
  • I Know There Is Life After Death
  • A Prayer Walk

We have also included expert resource articles to help parents and volunteers better understand how to interact with these children.

  • How to Help Children Who Are Grieving
  • Helping Children & Youth Cope With Worry
  • Creating Safety for the Traumatized Child
  • Understanding Refugee Children & Youth

All lessons are trauma-informed and no supplies are necessary except for items commonly available – leaves, sticks, pebbles or a piece of cloth, for example.

After a Natural Disaster is available in English and Spanish.
